 :: Bus Stop Buddy ::

A solemn prayer for the bus stop buddy.

"The buses, they pass by me day by day,
doing their usual pick-ups...
till one day their service discontinues..."
"Friends, they live and they laugh..
they form part of my life..
till the day we go our separate ways..."

While pissing into a urinal last night, an unattractive stranger at a stall next to mine kept staring at my penis. If he were cuter, I'd have said I got 'cruised'. But he's ugly, so I'd say I got 'perved' instead. There, the superficial difference. Then I realised what this could mean. In my past, I might have thought I 'cruised' so and so but to them, I might just as well be a less than attractive 'perv'. Worse still, people might not have been 'checking me out'. Instead, I could be like the kind of carwreck people just cannot take their eyes off. Hahaha. This is the problem when men look at other men as sexual objects. You objectify but you are also the objectified. What a paradox. Anyway, the stranger made me feel uncomfortable. So I barked at him: "KUA SIMI LANJIAO!" True to the common perv psychology, he was nothing but gutless underneath. He spun away in embarassment. And I won.

I'm seriously considering the Digital Harinezumi. The lo-fi Super-8-esque video effect is cool, but it's $260!

http://tankinlian.blogspot.com/2009/12/why-roulette-is-better-than-land.html

Land Banking Companies
Why the majority of them are (legal) scams

UK land sold by Land Banking firms have about a 1% chance of receiving planning permission over the next 20+ years.

That means you have a 99%+ chance of owning a piece of land that is almost completely worthless.(the land is typically marked up by 1500% when you buy it and resale on the open market without planning permission is almost impossible)

In roulette you have a 2.7% chance of winning if you put all your money on a single roulette number.
You will also find out immediately that you have lost all your money and should learn very quickly not to gamble. If you win Roulette will also give 35 times payout not the two to three times offered by the land banking companies.

If I were to sell a single roulette number with a 3 to 1 payout for winning as an amazing investment opportunity I am sure I would be shut down and probably put in Jail.

Can anyone explain why are Land Banking companies not subject to the same scrutiny ?

(handwritten note, at the back of the menu)

25 December 2009
- 830pm European Time, 330am Singapore Time,
written on the flight back to Singapore from Amsterdam -

The fantastic Europe trip is drawing to a close,
and we will soon revert back to the busy schedules of our lives.
Work, and the daily necessities of life will consume us,
and perhaps we will become too entangled
with confronting the daily issues,
that we may never recall this moment again.

Hence this hurried scribblings at the back of this special Christmas SQ menu.
I will not know if we will travel together again to Europe,
or to anywhere else.
But what is really important is to know,
at this present moment, 334am,
that we will always be journeying together;
Europe, Singapore or anywhere else.

And I hope for awareness - for it is with awareness -
the awareness that we are both happy, together -
that we can live this very moment to its fullest,
now and thereafter.

After a year, I finally changed my location in Facebook from Singapore to Cape Town, South Africa.

I guess in a way I've always felt that I'm merely a visitor in South Africa, mentally and psychologically I'm pretty much still a Singaporean in Singapore.

I think it is somewhat important to cross this mental barrier, over the past year I've let go of many things living alone here in a foreign country which has become not so foreign anymore.

I don't feel like I have to run home every 2 months anymore, but the emails and contacts I have with my friends are still very important. It's not easy for me to trust people, so I'm determined to hang on to the friends that I have, as long as they still allow me to be a part of their lives.

When I'm 64 by the Beatles from the movie Yellow Submarine

When I get older, losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me a Valentine
Birthday greetings, bottle of wine?

If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door?
Will you still need me,
will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?

oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo
You'll be older too, (ah ah ah ah ah)
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings, go for a ride.

Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more?
Will you still need me,
will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee:
Vera, Chuck, and Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, Wasting Away.

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me,
will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?

22 December 2009 @ 01:30 pm
In 花樣年華, there’s a scene where So Lai Chen makes a remark about her boss’s tie. The implication of the story behind the tie actually parallels the secret affair So Lai Chen’s husband is carrying on behind her back. Her boss appeared surprised when So Lai Chen made the remark. She replied, “細心是可以感覺到的。”

Since falling in love with the movie, I’ve learnt to open my eyes to see the smaller things. And I’ve realised that some of the most life affirming experiences are the small things. Not flash in the pan fireworks. In Up, Russell the eager beaver wilderness explorer said something to the same effect too. Though it may seem ridiculous that all he could remember was the mundane stuff. Yet, the small things touch the heart at its core.

The small things are like dots. When you connect the dots, you see the big picture. And suddenly, everything seems to make sense. I can't wait for the long weekend to begin. Here's early holiday wishes for all who still read my livejournal.
